Mark Coughlin, Barbara Coughlin, and Mike Ryan

You just never know who's going to walk into Paddy's and blow the doors off. These three ringers did it, and everyone loved it. The order of photos shows the trio, then Mark, Barbara, and Mike. They all played guitar (Mark doubled on bass) and sang powerful, tight harmonies on a wide range of older and newer material, including some choice Foo Fighters.

Talent

Geoff Evans

First time here for Geoff, who turns out to be one heck of a singer, and a powerful guitarist as well. Even the most jaded open mic fans (I'm not naming names) had to stop and listen.

Talent

Jim Keady

Here' s a possible reason for some folks to be jaded: Jim is such a polished singer and player, you're tempted to take excellence for granted. He does chord-leading stuff like you read about. That is—you read about it, try to play it, then forget it, since Neil Young doesn't play those chords.

Talent

David Legge and Larry Beguerie

What's not to love about a duo that call themselves "Begs and Legs"? They played a bunch of classic American roots music. Great guitar from David and serious vocals from Larry. These guys definitely need a gig at Paddy's.

Talent

Laura May

What a big, beautiful voice Laura has, and she even had me play on "Bobby McGee," which is a blast when someone really knows how to belt it out.

Talent

Kevin Godbout

I didn't recognize Kevin at first without his trademark hat, since my trademark brain was asleep. No worries, though, he entertained as famously as ever.

Talent

Brian Mahoney

Brian just keeps on getting better and better, aided and abetted by his brand-new Breedlove cedar-top cutaway orchestra model with its huge voice. Viewing hours are between 10:00 and 11:30. You may also see Brian's guitar on Wednesdays at Scott Bowser's acoustic jam. Reservations are suggested.

Talent

Chuck Whelan

Our own Chuck (well, I guess Scott owns 50% of him) drops in every Thursday and has everyone grooving and singing along with him in the blink of an eye. He pours out his high-energy music, gets everyone happy, then leaves me to pick up the pieces. Now I know what it must have been like to follow Al Jolson.

Talent

Bob McDermott

It's impossible to follow Bob as well (although I've been stalking him for years). He has an intuitive sense of what people want to hear at the precise moment they want to hear it. It all translates into big fun in a little joint.

Talent

Johnny Cash

The Man in Black paid a surprise visit from the Great Beyond. "I don't know who this Chuck Whelan feller thinks he is," he growled in his haggard baritone, "but if he continues to sing 'I Walk the Line' without going through the damn key modulations, I'm gonna slam my Martin D-42 over his damn head. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to join my damn wife back in Heaven."
